Veteran Martial Arts Director and choreography master is back with his first directorial film in over a decade.
Yuen Woo Ping, famous for bringing us classics such as Drunken Master, Iron Monkey, Wing Chun;( as well as recent work on Forbidden Kingdom (Starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li) as well as the Matrix Movies) is putting the finishing touches on his new release True legend (Su Qi-Er).
The film features the late David Carradine, Michelle Yeoh, Vincent Zhao, Cung Lee and (sadly) Jay Chou. I’ll be lying if i say i am happy with the casting of Jay Chou against the other stellar names in martial arts, but if anyone can make him look good on film its Yuen Woo Ping.
The film tells the story of Su Qi-er (Begger Su – played by Vincent Zhao) one of china’s most popular martial arts folk heroes.
The Begger Su character is probably most famous in the Drunken Master movies, but many others have played the character including Donnie Yen, Andy Lau and Chow Yun-Fat amongst others.
I truly believe Vincent Zhao will be fantastic in the lead role and this is right at the top of my list of must see films and probably the most anticipated martial arts movie since Hero.
