According to David Oxenbridge of the Korean Film Council, a remake of two classic Korean films is in the works. The Housemaid is a 1960 melodramatic thriller about a housemaid who causes an upheaval in the family she works for. She initially exhibits strange behavior before seducing the husband which leads to the eventual fragmentation of the family. The film, original directed by Kim Ki Young, will be remade under the direction of Im Sang Soo, whose works include the President’s Last Bang as well as Old Garden. He will be teaming up with Jeon Do-yeon, who will be playing the role of the nanny in the film. It is scheduled for international release in time for the 50th anniversary of the original film next year.
The second film, Full Autumn, is a 1966 movie about a young woman who falls in love with a counterfeiter who is on the lam. The woman herself is out on parole. The 1966 original was under the direction of Lee Man Hee. The new film will be directed by Kim Tae Yong and will have Chinese actress Tang Wei and Korean Hyeon Bin on its cast. This Korean – US collaboration will start its production this month in Seattle.
