A shame Red Cliff didnt make it onto the list but it does get an honourable mention. Even the US cut is pretty good too

This is assuming that those voting have had the opportunity of seeing all or some of the films listed. LOVE EXPOSURE hasn't really played in the West (America) and the Region 2 dvd is not english subbed, so are some voting just based on what they've read? Even THIRST is just now getting a US dvd release.

  • Tiger333 says:

The majority of the films have been released in some form or another this year
either on dvd or in the cinemas.

The films picked have not just been picked by those from North America or Europe, but the majority of the films listed came from votes in Asia so it makes sense that Love Exposure would be on the list even though its not been given a US release. and City of Life and Death also is not available yet unless you purchase via imported DVD.

Hopefully the voting should also bring some much needed exposure to these great films. (City of Life and Death is apparently getting a release early next year in Europe)

Non hyproctic answer: everyone has seen the subbed bootleg :)
