
Mano Po 6 as the title implies is the 6th movie of the Mano Po movie series in the Philippines. Mano Po movies highlight the importance of family, family values, love and respect for all the family members. It also adopts the rich culture and tradition of Chinese people. “Mano Po” is a Tagalog phrase which means asking one of your elder’s hand to touch your forehead while bowing . It is a Filipino gesture taught to the young to show respect to the elders.
This new Mano Po movie shows the story of a mother who will do anything to get her daughter who was taken away from her. The lead role will be portrayed by Ms. Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan, one of the most popular and successful singer-actress-TV host in the Philippines and wife of Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
Ms. Sharon, now 43, is dubbed as the “Megastar of Philippine Entertainment”. She started her career as a singer at a very young age of 12 and has done lead role at 15. Although she was raised by a rich influential family, her father being a former politician; her humor, intelligence and down-to-earth personality earned her appeal to the masses who brought her to full stardom.
Producer Lily Monteverde of Regal Entertainment (formerly Regal Films), fondly called as “Mother Lily” has long wanted to cast the megastar in one of her movies but Sharon has been in contract with the rival company Viva Films for over 3 decades.
Sharon plays as Melinda Uy, a loving mother who was maltreated and blamed by her in-laws for her husband’s death. Heart Evangelista cameos as her rebellious daughter. Other cast includes veteran actors/actresses Christopher de Leon, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Boots Anson-Roa, young stars Dennis Trillo, Ryan Eigenmann, JC de Vera, John Manalo, Nina Jose and Nicole Uysiuseng. Kris Aquino, an actress -TV host and the daughter of the former President Cory Aquino, appears as her best friend.
This is the 5th movie of the Mano Po series that has been directed by Mr. Joel Lamangan, the other one (Mano Po 2) was by director Erik Matti. Script was written by Mr. Roy Iglesias. Mano Po movie series started in 2002 but this is the most expensive of the sequel so far, having a 70 Million Peso production budget. Why it wouldn’t be when you have to bring the casts and crews in Thailand and recently in Beijing, China to shoot some of the scenes.
Mano Po 6 is intended to be an entry in Metro Manila Film Festival which will be held on Christmas Day, December 25, 2009, Philippines.
