At number 5 on our list is a fight scene which in our eyes is not only one of his best fight scenes but also one of the most important of Jackie Chan’s amazing career thus far.

The scene is from the film Drunken Master II aka Legend of Drunken Master. The film was originally released in 1994 but then further released to US audiences in 2000. It was only the second Hong Kong produced Chan film to receive a US cinema release (after ‘Rumble In the Bronx’) and whilst Rumble In the Bronx was the film that finally unleashed Jackie Chan to the western world with his crazy stunts and amazing work ethics; It was Drunken Master which proved that Chan (even at the age of 40 + !! when the film was released) could still kick ass!

This was a film released when many of the up coming stars were starting to get a hold on the action genre in America (most importantly Jet li – who was later able to himself crack America by accepting a role in the popular American film series Lethal Weapon (4) with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover – incidentally this was a role originally offered to Jackie Chan who refused on grounds that he at the time only wanted to play the good guy in his films). Chan needed to prove that he was still on top.

Directed by Martial Arts action legend Lau Kar Leung (who also takes on a small role in the film, which sees him and Chan in a fantastic but short fight scene), Drunken Master II is the unrelated sequel to Jackie Chan’s breakthrough film The Drunken Master (1978) (directed by Yuen Woo Ping). The film features arguably some of the best fight scenes of the 90s as well as showcasing for the first time that Jackie Chan could in fact use wires to great effect! From the first battle with Lau Kar to the fight at the food market then later the drunken fight on the streets; Drunken Master II is full of stand out scenes throughout but one scene in particular truly stands out above them all.

At approximatively 20 minutes long the final fight scene which pits Jackie Chan against Ken Lo (at the time training partner and bodyguard for Jackie Chan) and his gang is our choice to fill the position of 5th Best Martial Arts Fight Scene of All Time!

KenLo

Even before the fantastic climatic battle with Ken Lo, this fight scene was full of stand out action choreography, all of this, despite Lau Kar Leung (who actually took home a Best Director Award and Best choreography award for the film) being on set to direct the scene. Apparently Chan and Lau had creative differences onset which is understandable when two of the greatest choreographers get together to try and produce stunning fight scenes. Nevertheless the fight scene Chan was able to come up with I do not believe even Lau Kar Leung could have topped (but I bet he would have got bloody close)!
