Over at the AMP forums, there’s a very interesting thread that asks the question ‘Should Jackie Chan retire from action?’ While the answers were varied, it seems that Chan himself is planning to break out…..into song. Yes, you read that right. The martial arts maven has revealed that his new venture will be a musical based on his extraordinary life.

“I’m planning to do I AM JACKIE CHAN: THE MUSICAL. I’ve got a very interesting background. I will talk about how I got into the film business… and how I’ve come to be today. It’s a very interesting, classical musical,” Chan revealed.

While it may seem like a crazy sitcom premise, Chan is actually skilled in various fields of the performing arts.  He started school at the China Drama Academy under the tutelage of Master Yu Jim Yuen, who ran the school. As part of the Peking Opera school, he trained in martial arts, acrobatics, tumbling, music AND dance. So adept at his craft was Chan that he earned a place in the school performance group, The Seven Little Fortunes, an honor reserved for the academy’s best students. For an entire decade he honed his talents and many of his fellow alumni went on to illustrious careers in HK action.

Seemingly not wanting to put his other talents to waste, Chan has released 20 albums in various languages. He sings the theme songs for 28 of his films, including The Young Master and Rush Hour.  Even with his jack of all trades background, many doubt he will be able to transfer his life into music form. Of course,  it should be noted that Chan, in his 55 years on earth, has accomplished some pretty unlikely goals for a mere action hero (including releasing an album for the Beijing 2008 Olympic games and writing an autobiography.) With a life as unconventional as his, a musical just may be able to do it justice.
