The first trailer for noted director Tetsuya Nakashima’s latest film “Kokuhaku” (Confession) came out recently. The movie is about a Moriguchi, a committed middle school teacher whose four-year old daughter is found viciously murdered. Moriguchi’s slips into despair and believes that some of her students may have been responsible for her daughter’s death. She comes to a decision to leave the school, but not before making an unsettling confession to her class – she tells them that she has an elaborate plan for vengeance, which includes letting the students drink milk contaminated with the deadly HIV virus This sets the stage for a string of confessions that lead to the discovery of other incidents concerning the students. A surprising twist also takes place in the plot of the story.
Although the trailer itself does not reveal much of the movie, it shows another side of Nakashima as a director. Nakashima made his mark in the international movie scene in his 2004 movie “Kamikaze Girls”, which was an adaptation of a novel written by Novala Takemoto. He is also recognized as one of the world’s leading authority in visual styling.
“Kokuhaku”is based on the 2008 best selling novel of Kanae Minato with the same title as the movie, “Kokuhaku”. The novel sold more than 700,000 copies. The movie stars Takako Matsu (“K-20: Legend of the Mask” – 2008) as Moriguchi. It is scheduled to be released by Toho on June 5, 2010.
