It will be co-directed and produced by Manfred Wong and Raymond Yip. At a press conference held in Hong Kong on June 21, Wong told reporters that the script had taken four years to prepare. This new film will be the most accurate and authentic portrayal of Lee’s teenage life as first-hand information was collected from Lee’s family and friends.

Of most interest to movie goers is who will play Bruce Lee. The answer is: 23-year-old Aarif Lee has been lucky enough to get the part to play this legendary figure. Albeit sharing the same last name, Aarif is not related to Bruce. The singer-turned-actor shot to fame after winning the Best Newcomer Award this year at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards for his role as a high school track star in “Echoes of the Rainbow”. Another screen newcomer, Jennifer Tse, will play Bruce’s girlfriend while Tony Leung Ka Fei has been casted to play Bruce’s father.

Location shooting in Lu Zhou of Sichuan will begin in early July. The tentative Chinese title for this film is “Nunchuck”, literally. One can expect to see scenes featuring Lee’s training in mastery nunchuck. The film is scheduled for completion in November and release in the same month in China, Hong Kong and other Asian markets to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Lee’s birth.

Bruce Lee, also known to most Asian fans as Lee Siu-Long, was born in San Francisco in November, 1940. He died of cerebral edema at 32 in Hong Kong in 1973. This new film will likely be a hit to those who admire this kung-fu master and his legacy, especially after a host of films on Lee’s teacher Ip Man have proved to be so popular in the box-office among martial art movie fans.

Sources:

Wall Street Journal Blog: China Realtime Report

IGN Movies

English Xinhua News

Sina Entertainment (in Simplified Chinese)

New York Asian Film Festival 2010 Preview

Hong Kong/Chinese News

Japanese News

Korean News

News

Philippine News

Alien VS Ninja

Bodyguards and Assassins

chaw

Crazy Racer

Creature Feature

Ip man 2

kung fu

Little Big Soldier

Mutant Girl Squad

New York Asian Film Festival

Raging Phoenix

Yatterman

The New York Asian Film Festival 2010 will be taking place June 25 - July 28 on Manhattan Island, and promises to offer a unique and exciting cinema experience that only films from Asia can offer.

The New York Asian Film Festival 2010 will be taking place June 25 – July 28 on Manhattan Island, and promises to offer a unique and exciting cinema experience that only films from Asia can offer.

This years line up is filled with the madness we have all come to expect from Asian Cinema. From Kung-fu flicks and Korean creature features to throw backs to the giant monster movies of the 1950s and homages to the grind house scene of the 70s all will be featured at this year’s festival.

Among some of the highlights at the festival are:

Chaw - A Korean horror/comedy about an oversized boar going on a human-eating rampage (Review).

Bodyguards and Assassains – Featuring an all-star cast, including Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Leon Lai, Wang Xueqi, Simon Yam, Hu Jun, Eric Tsang, and Fan Bingbing, this martial arts movie has been described as the thinking man’s action film. Set in turn of the century Hong Kong, it tells the story of a group of bodyguards hired to protect a revolutionary from assassination.

Raging Phoenix – Starring Thiland’s own Jeeja Yanin, who gained international recognition in the movie Chocolate, this film revolves around a group of gangsters who kidnap women. Jeeja Yanin has to take them out with a combination of martial arts and break dancing!

Yatterman – This is ultra-violent director Takashi Miike’s take on a popular 1970s Japanese anime television series by the same name. Anything with Miike attached is always worth a watch.

IP Man 2 – The sequel to the very popular IP Man. The sequel sees Donny Yen and Sammo Hung squaring off.

Crazy Racer - The story of a narcotics deal gone bad resulting in our protagonist being relentlessly perused by criminal underworld types.

Little Big Soldier - “Set during the final years of the Warring States period of ancient China, the costume crowd-pleaser stars Jackie Chan as a cowardly soldier of Liang, who has captured a heavily wounded young general of rival kingdom Wei through sheer luck. Hoping that he will be rewarded and possibly discharged from the army, the soldier, who longs for peace and freedom, takes the captive along on his way back home. Their initial animosity gradually turns into friendship as the odd couple encounters danger in the shape of refugees, nomads, and the Wei armies on their eventful journey”.

Alien VS Ninjas – Do I really need to include a plot synopsis? I think the title speaks for itself.

Mutant Girl Squad – The three-way brain child of Tak Sakaguchi (Be a Man! Samurai School), Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police), and Noboru Iguchi (Robogeisha) this flick is sure to be interesting to say the very least. It has been said that the movie is like a sick and twisted version of the X-Men.

Tickets went on sale June 10, so buy your tickets and do not miss out on all the Asian cinema mayhem!

Click here to view the embedded video.

Source: subwaycinemanews.com

Dragons Forever – Review

Hong Kong Reviews

Reviews

Jackie Chan

kung fu

review

Sammo Hung

Trailers

Yuen Biao

This is the last movie that all three dragons starred in together and is probably the best one of the lot with fantastic fight scenes, great comedy and excellent stunt work.

This is the last movie that all three dragons starred in together and is probably the best one of the lot with fantastic fight scenes, great comedy and excellent stunt work.

Jackie Chan is hired as a lawyer by a chemical plant owner to help stop it going under as the chemicals start destroying the local fish farming.
When the appeal goes to court, Chan finds himself attracted to the star witness May (Pauline Yeung).
The person behind all this is factory owner and boss Yuen Wah, who is smuggling in drugs but Chan doesn’t know this yet and still decides to go against his client and help May and her friend.

He gains the help of two friends, a professional burgler (Yuen Biao) and also an arms dealer (Sammo Hung) to find out more information about both sides and help him bring justice. Sammo starts to get close to one of the women but finds himself falling in love with her and of course she finds out that he has been lying to her to the whole time.

Then things take a nasty turn when Biao and Hung discover that the factory is secretly producing drugs and Hung is captured by the gangsters after a great fight scene bringing in the fantastic Benny “The Jet”. Biao goes back and tells Chan that that Hungs been kipnapped so they head to the factory to save him and bring down the drug dealers.

Hong Kong’s three favorite sons, Jackie, Sammo and Biao in the eighties helped shape and broaden the interest in Hong Kong cinema in the west, the fight scenes in this movie are better than any of their past movies together showing Biao in incredible form, performing high flips, spin kicks and every other move you can think off.

Once again Sammo has managed to surround our three stars with an endless list of famous faces. Yuen Wah playing the cigar puffing drug lord who is surrounded by an array of fighting thugs that include Billy Chow, Phillip Ko, Chin Kar Lok, Fung Hak-On and Chung Faat.

We even get Dick Wei thrown in to the mix in a fight scene that takes place on a boat. Benny “The Jet” Urquidez as one of the main villains at the drug processing factory, Benny has short fights with both Sammo and Yuen Biao towards the end of the film, but it is the re-match with Jackie that we are all waiting to see, and its very, very good. The fight almost matches their brilliant encounter in “Wheels On Meals” a few years earlier, but i prefer this movie overall to Wheels On Meals.

If you haven’t seen this movie please go out and grab a copy, if you have a friend who wants to get into Hong Kong action cinema then this is a perfect film to introduce them too. The stunts in the final reel are far beyond anything done in Hollywood, with both Jackies and Sammo’s stuntgroup trying to out match each other. Excellent action from the kings of hong kong cinema, there aint many better.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Shaolin Girl Movie Review

Reviews

Japanese Reviews

Ko Shibasaki

kung fu

Shaolin girl

trailer

Kung fu fanatics would love to see another action packed movie like the Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. Now here’s another version of these films produced by Stephen Chow, “Shaolin Girl.” It is a Japanese film released on April, 2008 and was directed by Katsuyuki Motohori. It recounts a story of a girl named Rin Sakurazawa who was played by Ko Shibasaki who is also from Battle Royale and Dororo fame.

Rin is a student of the Shaolin temple. She has to return to her little Japanese town to take over her late grandfather’s Dojo (a school for training Japanese arts of self-defense). However, the school has been abandoned by its students including her former mentor who was played by Yosuke Eguchi.

Rin, who have endured many years of training at the Shaolin Martial arts, would like to share what she learned to everyone. Unfortunately no one wants to join in her quest to spread the philosophy of Kung fu except for Minmin Ryu (played by Kitty Zhang Yuqi) who is a lacrosse player. Here, there was an agreement between the two lovely girls. Rin would teach Minmin, but in the condition that Rin would become a player of their team. Now we encounter the difficult side of Rin, who wants only to showcase her Kung fu talent in playing Lacrosse. She doesn’t know and understand the meaning of teamwork. In their first game together, they lost because of Rin’s shortcoming. But in time, Rin learned to control her emotions and eventually became the team’s string of victories. In return her team helped her restore the dojo. Just as when everything seems to be on her side, the real action began when Rin met her adversary from a dark incident in the past that she knew nothing about.

Though Shaolin Girl was produced by Stephen Chow of Shaolin Soccer it didn’t turned out to be as expected. The fighting scene was slow and the sequences are incomparable to the animation of the latter movie and Kung fu Hustle. Also if you’ll notice there was even a part were some fighters fell in the pool but remained dry when they got up and continued fighting. Is this a magic pool or what?

With their attempt to make something different, Shaolin Girl movie became direction less. First is the use of sports that has no connection to the ending of the story. Second is the part where she found the other dojo students (some casts of Shaolin Soccer), but this scene doesn’t even matter because they too were gone not even giving use to their character. Unlike the casts of Shaolin Soccer team who were there from start until the end and you’ll know why they should be part of the movie. Last but not the least is Rin’s adversaries who lack the credibility to be real villains.

Mr.Vampire 5 (Magic Cop) – Review (1990)

Hong Kong Reviews

Reviews

horror

kung fu

Lam Ching ying

mr vampire

mr vampire 5

review

Mr Vampire is back with lam ching ying back in the lead role ( Wu Ma stepped in on the 4th) and a new director Tung Wei sets this up to be a great film, and it certainly is a great film.

Mr Vampire is back with lam ching ying back in the lead role ( Wu Ma stepped in on the 4th) and a new director Tung Wei sets this up to be a great film, and it certainly is a great film.

Lam Ching Ying plays a modern day cop who favours a more traditional way to fight crime in the area. Along the way he has two assistants who try to help out, there way is a more modern approach to tackling crime and are sceptical about this ways. Then a Vampire (Michiko Nishiwaki) arrives from another world with a sidekick (Billy Chow), looking for a special shield which has alot of power and can unleash hell on the world.

Lam now has the perfect chance to show everybody his skills to defeat the vampire and save the world from years of horror. The final battle is a great watch with Lam Ching Ying first having to take on the fantastic badguy Billy Chow then face the female vampire.

One great sequence that i love is where lams assistant is being controlled by the vampire, so lam tries to perform sandwriting to find out where they are, a great watch which ive never seen since.

This movie perfectly blends modern day action with traditional vampire style shenanigans which makes it my favorite since the first movie. Great scenes and lam ching ying is fantastic as ever in this clever written modern day vampire movie.

[Rating:8/10]

Click here to view the embedded video.

Mr.Vampire 4 (1988) – Review

Hong Kong Reviews

Reviews

chin kar lok

horror

kung fu

mr vampire

mr vampire 4

wu ma

Ok now to the forth installment of the vampire series, Ricky Lau is once again back behind the camera but this time Lam Ching Ying is not in the movie so Wu Ma takes over as the toast priest.

Ok now to the forth installment of the vampire series, Ricky Lau is once again back behind the camera but this time Lam Ching Ying is not in the movie so Wu Ma takes over as the toast priest.

Two rivals – one a toast priest and one a buddhist monk put aside there differences and join together to beat a vampire on the rampage. Chin Kar Lok provides the movie with his martial art skills and also Yuen Wah appears as one of the vampires (just as he did in the first movie).

Alot of the time in the movie is spent on the two rivals past and conflict between each other for half of the film but once the vampire finally starts to appear with his army of vombies, the movie starts to pick up. There are alot of gags in the film as the series started to take a more comedy role than horror, but the action is fast paced with chin kar lok performing some great kicks.

This is the first movie of the series that lam ching ying does not appear in, which to me doesn’t feel the same as he is the best in that role, but Wu Ma doesn’t do to bad filling his boots.

Overall its a good watch, not quiet as good as the 3rd movie but still worth ago. Also sammo hung was back again producing the movie and chroeographing the fight scenes.

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Victim (1980) – Review

Reviews

kung fu

leung kar yan

review

Sammo Hung

the victim

trailer

Yuen Biao

This is one of my favorite Sammo Hung movies,a great story line with so many twists and turns that makes you watch from start to finish without pausing it.

Click here to view the embedded video.

This is one of my favorite Sammo Hung movies,a great story line with so many twists and turns that makes you watch from start to finish without pausing it.

Sammo plays the character Chen Ling, who is searching for a master to teach him in kung fu. After his first encounter with actor “Chong Fat”, chen finds himself face to face with the guys master. To prove he could win, he challenges the grey haired fighter and defeats him with his fast footwork, great weaponary and even a front flip kick to finish him off.

On his travels chen stumbles across Lung Cheung Yow (leung Kar Yan) who defeats chen, so chen follows him around and tries to get him to teach kung fu, but Yow refuses. What chen doesn’t know is that hes just walked straight in to a family fued of Yow’s between him and his older Yo Wing. The fued as been going on years since the day his brother tried to rape Yow’s wife on there wedding day.

Also in the movie is an unknown assassin who has been blackmailed into killing Yow because his own mother has been kidnapped. Theres a funny scene with sammo pretends to be a vampire to get hold of a dead body,(But his fangs fell out at the wrong time).

This movie as incredible fight scenes with sammo hung and leung kar yan showing how good they are, with wing chun style movements and blocks, lots of weapon work and plenty of bad guys running about makes this movie a sammo hung classic. Sammo plays a great comedy role in the film, his acting ability really is fantastic and believable.

Overall a superb movie and i give it 10/10

[Rating:10/10]

*NOTE* – Yuen biao and Lam Ching Ying helped with the fight choreography, they are in the background during fights and Biao also doubles the main stars for flips and harder timing in the shots.

King Of Kung Fu’s Top 10 Kung Fu Movies

Features

Drunken Master

eight diagram pole fighters

encounters of the spooky kind

fist of futy

kung fu

legendary weapons of kung fu

magnificent butcher

Prodigal Son

snake in the eagles shadow

the victim

top 10

Here is my top ten all time kung fu movies. please feel free to share your's also in the comment section.

1. The Prodigal Son – I first seen this movie in the early 90′s and till this day it remains my all time favorite kung fu movie. Based of the wing chun system this movie has everything, superb kung fu, comedy, violence, fantastic characters, story and music. It also won the best action choreography at the 1983 film awards and was nominated for best picture and sammo Hung for best director. The fight scenes are excellent with yuen Biao and Lam Ching Ying showing us how it should be done. One fight that comes to mind is when lam Ching Ying is attacked by a group of ninjas sent to kill him, but the timing and skill involved is second to none. If you haven’t seen this movie please find a way to do so.

Bruce Lee - Now in HD

Click here to view the embedded video.

2. Drunken Master – This to me is one of jackie chan’s best kung fu performances, maybe thats also due to the fact that Yuen Woo Ping was directing the movie. Drunken Master was kind off a semi sequel to the 1978 film snake in the eagles shadow which featured the same cast and director. Jackie in this movie shows some excellent drunken fist movement, to me nobody can perform it better than he can, theres plenty of fights throughout the movie where we get to see him take on the the korean martial artist Hwang Jang Lee who is known for his breathtaking kicking skills. Watch out for the training sequences also, where jackie is put through his paces.

Click here to view the embedded video.

3. The Victim – The many plot twist’s in The Victim and Sammo’s direction makes this movie a superb watch from start to finish. There’s lots of great fight scenes throughout with both Sammo and Leung Kar Yan showing what they can really do on screen. This is one of his best films to date, the acting, characters, fights and story line are all excellent. One scene i loved was when Sammo Hung is challenges different masters (of course beats them), then he’s faced with a buddhst monk who challenges him to take 3 strikes and whoever gives up first – loses. Who has the most power??? Overall a fantastic film with loads of plot twists. One of Sammo’s best pictures.

Click here to view the embedded video.

4. Legendary Weapons Of Kung Fu – In my review on this movie i say many fans of the genre hold this as one of the greatest kung fu films ever made, although its not number 1 in my list it is a brilliant and original film. The finale must last around 20 minutes where both brothers Lau Kar Leung and Lau Kar Wing must use every single weapon ever known showing some unbelievable skill. Gordon Liu is also great in this movie along with the excellent Hsiao Hou. One of Shaw Brothers best movies and believe me they did quiet a few.

Click here to view the embedded video.

5. The Magnificent Butcher – Once again we see Sammo Hung on the list with another brilliant kung fu movie filled with exciting fights and characters. Sammo plays Butcher Wing one of wong fei hung’s top students, but he always seems to be getting in trouble. When Fei Hung leaves the town, Butcher Wing gets into so much trouble with the rival school, the master being played by Lee Hoi San. Also in the movie are Lam Ching Ying,Fong Hak An, Yuen Biao and Kwan Tak Hing. The epic showdown see’s Sammo’s five animals style against master Kao’s Five elements, with sammo showing some excellent hand to hand combat and kicking skills. The best fight in the film for me is when we get to see Yuen Biao take on Lam Ching Ying – what a fight that is in terms of the timing and movement involved, we just wouldn’t see that type of kung fu anymore on our screens. Another gem by the legendary director Yuen Woo Ping. A must see.

Click here to view the embedded video.

6. Drunken Master 2 – I knew both the drunken master films would be in my top 10, but the original just beat it for me. Taking nothing away from this masterpiece 16 years after the first, jackie still shows just how good he is and to me this is the last film where we see him fight at his very best. Ti Lung stars as Wong Fei Hung’s father and the late Anita Mui as his mother (although shes probably younger than chan himself), jackie shows us some excellent drunken fist throughout the film. The first main fight is between Jackie chan and Lau Kar Leung which takes place under a train, which then leads to a house where jackie gets off the hook lightly when his train starts to leave. Another scene i love is when he takes on a few thugs in the market place, this is the first time we see jackie drink his wine and he lets rip on the thugs beating them to a pulp with his very impressive flips and kicks. The end of the film will have you rewinding over and over again as jackie takes on loads in a factory using every move he has got in a jaw dropping finale. (the ending took over 3 months to film). Jackie was only a few months away from his 40th birthday when this was completed but for someone of that age performing like he does is out of this world. Do NOT miss this movie.

Click here to view the embedded video.

7. Snake In The Eagles Shadow – The third Jackie Chan movie in my top 10 and this really does deserve to be there. Once again Yuen Woo Ping is in the driving seat and this made Jackie an overnight superstar. What i love about this film is the story and characters, the way the beggar(Yuen Siu Tin) helps out Chien Fu (Jackie Chan) from his teachers who beat him up everyday and just basically dont care if he’s alive or dead. Chien helps out the old beggar when he is attacked in the street (At this point Jackie cannot fight). After a while the beggar takes Chien under his wing and starts teaching the snake fist, but the snake fist is not enough to take on the badguy – the king of the eagle claw (hwang Jang Lee). So Chien has to bring another style into his training which is cats paw (His own creation, when seeing a cat defeat a snake), before he can beat the eagle claw king. This is another classic jackie chan movie, which wasn’t even supposed to be in the film as they were unable to get Fu Sheng, but im so glad Woo Ping gave Jackie the chance he deserved and what a classic they got.

Click here to view the embedded video.

8. Encounters Of The Spooky Kind – Ok so its a kung fu/horror movie but what a movie it is, Sammo Hung yet again switching styles to make this a great watch from start to finish. Here Sammo plays Cheung The Brave, what he likes to do is places bets with people that he can stay in haunted places overnight and be known as the Bravest. His wife is having an affair and hires a toast priest to kill him by placing him in a house with zombies. But the evil priests brother discovers his plans and tries to help cheung the brave out by taking him under his wing. Sammo really does blend horror and kung fu better than anyone out there, the movie also broke new ground in hong kong cinema including a sequel called spooky encounters and spin offs such as the Mr Vampire series and Dead And The Deadly. yuen Biao is also on helping hand with the fight choreography and stunt doubles for lots of people.

Click here to view the embedded video.

9. Eight Diagram Pole Fighters – The second Shaw Brothers in my top 10, Gordon Liu is back and kicking serious butt. Lau Kar Leung is back in the directers seat with this all out kung fu movie, which he also stars in. Its set during the Mid-song Dynasty Fu Sheng stars in the movie also as the sixth son who returns to his homeland after witnessing his other brothers and father killed by General Pang Mai who tricks the family into the seige. But the fifth brother also survived the attack and his rescued by a hunter (lau Kar Leung) who puts his own life at risk to protect him. Just to note whilst the movie was in the making lead actor Fu Sheng had sadly died in a car crash which resulted in a massive script re-write which put Wai Ying Hung in the lead role. The movie has some fantastic moments, also the pole fight between Gordon Liu and Phillip Kao is incredible. Watch this movie.

Click here to view the embedded video.

10. Fist Of Fury – How could i have a top ten without atleast one Bruce Lee film in there. Bruce had just done The Big Boss with Lo Wei and was reunited for the second on this picture, but this time Bruce was given more control over the action and you really can tell in this movie. Set in shanghai in the 1930′s, The founder of the martial arts assocation is reported to have died from a sudden illness. Bruce lee comes back (His best student) and isn’t fully sure of his masters death so he wants investigations to ahead and find the real reason behind it. On his way there are some fantastic fight scenes against the Japanese rivals, with bruce entering there school with a sign given to him by the japanese saying “sick men of asia” – Bruce makes them eat there words. When released it broke all box office records throughout asia and beat the previous one The Big Boss and also gained a fantastic remake (Fist Of Legend) with jet li in the lead. This is bruce’s best movie.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my top ten kung fu movies, believe me it wasn’t easy and left some great films out of it. But is rightly deserved to be called a masterpiece.

A shaolin monk adopts two boys from a young age but for some reason decides to bring them up differently by keeping Tze Ling (Tsui Sui Ming) as a monk within the monastry and Kwok Cheung (Yuen Hsin Yee), is sent away to the city where he is brought up by a old man. As the two were getting older though they were both taught the brilliant art of the buddhist fist, but what they did not know was both men had to confront each other as some eveil villians led Tze Ming astray and is forced to go and perform criminal acts.

There are many great fight scenes throughout the movie and some very strange bad guys (But that adds to the greatness of the film), and the fantastic showdown brings them together where its a case of Buddha’s fist and Palm. Like fellow martial art stars Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, Lam also studying at a peking opera school although he only went there after he finished elementary school. Madame Fan Fok -Fa (Fun Guk-fa), was the teacher at Lam’s peking opera school who was also a rival to Jackie Chan’s teacher Yu Jim Yuen, but most of the students from both schools actually got on really well and occassionally hung out together.

(Below is a video that shows lam performing peking opera in a few movies) Enjoy.

Click here to view the embedded video.

In the late 60′s teaching’s started to fade so like others, Lam took the familiar route into Kung Fu movies. He firstly joined up With the newly found Golden Harvest Movie company (Rivals to the great Shaw Brothers), at the time there were bitter feelings between Run Run Shaw and Golden Harvest founder Raymond Chow, (Although he did a few bits of work for shaw brothers as a stuntman). Lam’s first job with Golden Harvest was on Bruce Lee’s The Big Boss, where he was actually a martial arts choreographer along with co – director Han Yingjie. He can also be spotted in the movie working at the factory and there are lots of close ups in the film that clearly show his face. After this movie he was then again used for Bruce Lee’s next project Fist Of Fury, where he can be seen playing one of the Japanese bad guys who is destroyed by Bruce in the film. Lam’s relationship with Bruce was close and he then next worked with him on the massive hit Enter The Dragon working as a stuntman on the film and is only seen sitting next to Jim Kelly when him and John Saxon are taking bets on the fights. Also the likes of Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao Yuen Wah and Sammo Hung appear in this movie, all of them apart from sammo only worked as extras.

Throughout the 70′s Lam Ching Ying worked very hard behind the camera or playing very small parts as badguy’s or stunt doubles, and it wasn’t really until the early 80′s that work started to come his way thanks to Legendary director/actor Sammo hung. Lam’s First role was in Sammo’s Magnificent Butcher where he played a badguy, the fight between him and yuen biao is incredible. The timing from both fighters is excellent and just shows how hard it is to get skill like that infront of the camera (Something we lack these days). Lam was next cast in Sammo’s Encounters Of The Spooky Kind a martial arts/horror film where Lam would play a police officer trying to find sammo (who was framed for killing his wife). The movie was a massive hit and next up was the incredible Prodigal son, a movie to me which goes down as one of the best kung fu movies ever made. Lam Played Leung Yee Tai the teacher to yuen biao in the movie, He shows us some of the best wing chun moves ever in a movie and his acting skills were really on top form which led to a new and exciting career for Lam Ching Ying.

Watch the clip below to see lam ching ying in action from The Prodigal Son.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Lam then did a movie called The Dead And The Deadly where he played a Toast Priest who would tackle evil forces and destroy them with his skills. This role alone led him to do this over and over again as audiences had found there Van Helsing of the east, and movies such as the Mr Vampire seires was created and other movies relating to that role.

Here is a clip of Lam in action from the movie Spooky Encounters the follow up to Encounters of the Spooky Kind. Enjoy.

Click here to view the embedded video.

The success of Mr Vampire had now led Lam to being typecasted in that role and found it difficult to get other role, He had bit parts in movies like Pom Pom And Hot Hot, Shanghai Express, Pedicab Driver, My Lucky Stars and others. This is really sad as Lam Ching ying is a fantastic actor, he could show so many emotions on screen and probably play any kind of character but didn’t really get his chance. (School On Fire is one movie to check out for acting alone).

In the 90′s people were saying that HK cinema was starting to go down hill with people like Jackie Chan, Jet Li Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun fat going over to hollywood, where as Lam and Yuen Biao had to swallow their prides and do Crappy B flick action movies. Why? im not sure, maybe they didn’t have the following the rest of the guys had, which again is a massive shame.

Lam Ching Ying then went on to make Vampire Expert, a tv series which was 2 parts and made over 100 episodes for it. The series was a hit on television and couldv’e have brought Lam back to the big screens but this was not to happen because in 1997 Lam Ching Ying died from liver cancer a battle he had tried to win for a long time. This news was massive and even his close frineds like Sammo Hung did not know about this illness as Lam kept it quiet and only had his close family around him when he passed. Sammo still gets choked up about this when people talk about it in interviews as Lam was a very, very close friend to him.

Here is a music video dedicated to the late great vampire expert. Enjoy.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Lam Ching Ying had a fantastic career starring in some of the greatest kung fu and horror movies ever made and he will always be remembered as the vampire killer. No one could do it better than him, and i very much doubt there will be anyone to take that role away.
